Having to wear a mask any time you head out may not be the best motivator for keeping up with your makeup routine but, since it seems to be a definite part of the next few months of our lives, at least, it’s time to start thinking of masks as a fun beauty challenge instead of a setback.
For me, that means putting less focus on a bold lip and instead playing up my eyes. To do so, I’ve put some time into creating a few graphic eyeliner looks that are great for any face shape and skin tone and that are sure to help you wow through the months ahead.
This look relies on an unexpected pop of color to bring excitement to your look. I love the Wet n Wild MegaLiner in color 873, Voltage Blue, but this style can work just as well with a bright purple, green, burgundy, or maybe even orange liner. The key part is creating a saturated line that highlights your face behind the mask.
Prime your whole eyelid with Lorac Behind the Scenes Eye Primer. Blend it into the eyelid until the primer is evenly distributed. You can apply the eyeshadow primer with a brush or your finger (you’ll get a more even application using a brush).
Use a matte eyeshadow in a color that is a few shades lighter than your skin tone; this will help to wash out any uneven skin tone. You can use a shadow brush from the Real Techniques eye collection for this.
Then use the Wet n Wild MegaLiner in color 873, Voltage Blue, to line the lash line from the inner corner to the outer corner of the lash line. Hold the applicator at an angle when applying to get a more controlled application.
Starting from the outer corner of the eyelashes, draw a new line (the wing) by drawing a ½-inch line upward at a 45-degree angle toward the end of the eyebrow. Use less pressure when drawing the end of the line to get a more delicate, tapered effect.
Connect the lash line with the newly created wing line, forming a triangle, and then fill in the middle with your Wet n Wild liner. If you prefer a more precise, clean line, or if you have trouble keeping a straight line, use a damp Q-tip to clean up the edge of the wing.
With the same Wet n Wild MegaLiner in color 873A, Voltage Blue, go back over the line you’ve already produced. When using a color liner, a more saturated line will give a better color payoff. Again, you can achieve this look with a variety of colors.
Now that you have the shape complete, double-check your work. Make sure no voids are left showing, that your liner is fully saturated, and the color is even. It’s OK if you have to go back in to ensure that you have a nice, clean, precise look. Some colored liners require two coats for them to really showcase the intensity. Apply some mascara for contrast and definition.
Set your eye look with a setting spray to ensure your look stays all day. Hold the bottle 12 inches from your face and spray two times in a “T” motion across your face with your eyes closed. Start with the first spray moving from your forehead toward your nose, and the second spray across closed eyes, motioning from your left ear to your right ear, and you’re all set!
Though not quite as daring as the first look, this eyeliner tutorial also creates a great pairing with a face mask.

With the Physicians Formula Ultra Fine Liquid Eyeliner in color 6897, Ultra Black, start at the tip of the wing and draw upward into the socket of the eyelid, dragging the liner pen toward the inner corner of the eye following the shape of your eye socket.
If you are unsure of where you should draw the line, then with your eyes closed, use your fingertips to feel out the shape of your eye socket to get an idea of where to apply, and then go back in with the liquid liner.
Now that you have the shape complete on both eyes, take a look in the mirror, facing straight on, to check the symmetry of the liner. Not everyone's eyes are the same size. If you need to make the liner thicker or longer on one side to keep everything symmetrical, that’s fine.
If you want to add a little pizzazz or shimmer, add a pair of false lashes or highlighter to your brow bone or inner corner of your eye to take this look up another notch.
This look amps up the drama with a retro look that’s all about the eyes. Here’s how to accomplish it:

With the Physicians Formula Ultra Fine Liquid Eyeliner in color 6897, Ultra Black, outline the blue liner starting with the wing, drawing upward to the tip of the wing. The blue eyeliner should act as a guideline, and you should be able to stencil the black liner.
With the same Physicians Formula eyeliner, outline the eyeliner on the top eyelid, just above the blue liner.
Pro tip: Hold the eyeliner pen in the middle, and you’ll get the effect of a fine line.
Now that you have the shape complete, double-check your work. Make sure no voids are left showing, and all skin showing in the outline is filled with either the black liner or the blue liner. It’s OK if you have to alternate between the blue liner and the black liner to ensure that you have a nice, clean, precise look.
And that’s it! You don’t have to stop there and you can play around with other shapes and lines to create your own graphic eyeliner look. Have fun and don’t forget to grab your face mask on your way out!
